It had a script. It was a utilization of audio voice over
for the duration. In doing so it ranked much closer to a 
pod cast than a movie. 
The one problem was the sometimes lack of consistency between
image and story. 
Though I liked the fact I had the fluid sim set for the 
part about massive number of computations.

Using the lighting and the contrast video FX 
helped make this story of sensory reception a
bit metaphorical. I reduced the whole image and
managed a floating disembodied head effect.
I made it so there was more of an acute sense
of sense.

It was good to get to talk about the movie with her.
I think it really brought the thing to life.
Though in the future I think I'll have to record with the
camera mic and then add the audio.

This movie should come with a warning on how bizarre it is.
But there are still elements of communication in it.
Shadow Think poem is having the name removed.
I wanted to hold longer on the shot with the code reflected in my glasses.
But I messed it up while trying to fit an action to the music. 
The whole thing began when I was just test shooting some things and I 
guess I was in a sort of playfully mysterious mood anyway.
So this is the result.

It is with great honor that I bring the Sadie Movie
to the web. I made this movie for my best friend Sadie
back when she turned 19. It was a complete surprise for her
and even though she shows up in shots she didn't know it was
a movie for her. When I watched after all this time I 
reaffirmed the fact I think she's a great person and decided
it needed to be up for everyone to see.
For Sadie, Love Chris.


This movie demands commentary. I have a lot to explain but I think I want
Sadie with me when I talk about it.

Sometimes movies catch my attention and I think.. mm I've
got to go back and talk about that one for one reason or
another.


It's nice to pull out movies that don't require such excertion to make.
Too many of them could probabily get old. But a few here and there to 
give a behind the scenes look can be eye opening. And give me a chance
to relax when I need to tend to other things.

          Sometimes the ones where I have no idea what I'm doing at the
beginning actually turn out okay.


I like the variety that this movie had. 
We jump from Sadie eating candies to some time lapse.
Then later some footage for the scientist gag.
That idea had been with be for a long time.
It's good that i finally got to joke about it.
And the fact it's on Valentines day made it all that
much better.

I think I might make commentary on this one.
I thought the sacarism of the guy in the opening claiming
this was a great 'motion picture' and the next frame of me
going 'welp I pretty much don't have an idea' were a nice
combo. 

In all, it was a nicely paced 2.5 minutes targeted piece.
And I had no idea it was to turn out the way it did.
So I was quite amused during the whole process.
Though finding the 1000Hz Sine wave took longer than I intended.

I'm lovin the morphing I can do now. The possibilities are so cool.
It's quite fun to have this in my movie production arsenal. For those

Not a bad movie. Well paced displays what's needed to be seen.
I thought it was an all and all good idea to do this follow up 
in order to continue the trend of 'show effect' then 'show the how to'
The movie is a good example of when things work out better than I 
expect and it didn't take too long.

Let's play a game. What is the Open source equivalent to....


I've come to know of the open source software equivalent to whatever
is out there. And I was looking for a reason to use a morph and I thought
this was a nice useage of that sort of visual transition.
I wish it didn't cross to black in the middle though. The edges are 
distracting during a change.

This sort of movie touches on the one thought one message optimized file.
It's short, to the point and didn't take too long. But there was a fair amount
of attention paid to the effect.

Shot 2 Fridays ago edited today, I attempt my first on campus
 'live' deal. Yet, is it really live if no one else is around 
to experience and interact with it?


As I editied I was worried about pacing. But I think the clips
I hold on for a while still have substance so I think it works
out anyway.

Random CG clips that collect on my harddrive. Once again I purge my 
harddrive of them to make room for better things.


Rummaging through old iMovie Project files I found this.
Clearly, it was a night where I had little patience for production.
So, the quick fix is to slap on an audio track to an old
CG assorted movie project and send it out. 
Not one of my finer moments but useful for me for it fulfills the 
removal of old files for new things to come in.

What sort of feel do you get from the same
basic information?


Tonight I have a lot of work to get done.
Idea written while in VB class

16 min of editing
2 min exporting.

I think really having a idea of substance.
Something that I can convey with out dragging out
the topic or spending too much time editing.
(very important when I have many other things I have
to do the same night)
If I can just learn to hit on the main message I think
that would make world of difference.

This was one of the really quick edit jobs. I didn't even
set up my regular camera. I just used the iSight.
Note, there was no change in volume for the cutaways.
If I wasn't so pressured for time I would have made a side
by side comparision shot. Instead, I opted for a cross dissolve
between the two.

During COMM 108 I recorded myself presenting in all it's ultra fast and slurred glory.

With a drowsyness brought on by cold medicine I wasn't at my best when I threw
up this video. I slapped it in. Put it up. And pre-cursored it. 
It's not much but I felt it a documentable thing regardless.

I'm talking to myself again. Why is it that I can't remember what
 I learned today? I'm in college. Doesn't... nay.. shouldn't that make a difference?


I can envision someone saying, "Chris your just not trying as hard as you
used to" To which I might respond.. "naw, I'm really taking back my
objectives and setting them upon myself"
"What?"
I mean I'm not 'trying' to present something for an audience so much as I am
thinking about what I 'myself' would  care to remember.
"That's all okay and stuff.. But could you bring back that girl or that bunny?"
"Get away from me kid, I ain't your hero anymore.

Joy and I hang out. There is much jump cutting and a feet. 
It's a laugh for us. Don't know what it will be for others.

There was 17 minutes of footage all together. And this was
only a segment in the middle. I contemplated splitting all
the rest of it into segments and dispensing them at later
dates.

Brief. Impressionist. Read the blog page it's on to figure out why it is.

I had always thought of doing something poetic.
This wasn't really the incarnation I was thinking of.
But I was pressed for time and decided to give one 
concrete though hazy thought and stop it there.
Even this little thing took longer than it should have.
I the focus is on the audio. But I mixed the poems
that appear on the page. 
Kind of a nod to those whom haven't read the pages.

I realized I could fit clip footage to the audio by
bringing them in and then fadeing them out. 
I discovered that it's 3 something seconds between..
I don't even know what you would call that... rhtymic 
beats or something? Basically, before the next visual fits
with the music.

When I made this movie I had forgotten that I Announced the thing
in the movie that I was attaching the preview screen too.
That's sort of funny. Oops. Eh, repetition is good for the memory.

This was the first movie I used the freeze frame, then L cut to transition.
It was after I taped when I realized I had to explain the whole 'day off'
problem. It gets me confused sometimes.

I miss spelled some text in the first render of the Intermission text.
I did it over.. but I contemplated just putting up the misspelled text.

When someone asks me a question I sometimes try to answer it... 
but I always want to teach a man to fish... I mean 3 fish and a
guy. Or something. Eh whatever... make with the fish, will ya?

I use feedback.. sometimes when I'm in a time crunch and I have no
proceeding idea. It get's used. I was glad I coudl tag a bit of 
extra advice onto it. Or else I wouldn't have made it I think.

The fight is on when my new router refuses to work. 

How do I get these ideas?
It occured to me while I was under the desk trying
to reset the router... The thought process must have
been, "Man, I sure am fighting with this thing... fight...
hey wait a minute" And covering it like a boxing match
flashes into my head. The result wasn't exactly what I was
after but I spent way to  much time on teh thing considering I
was keeping myself up late while still having to wake up
a 7:30 am the next day. I think I managed to get through today
alright.

Ever wonder what the volume of your hand is?


It wasn't that I went into overtime for this movie. 
It was the fact I went into over time on the movie after.
(The movie that I edit so that I can add a preview to this one)
Handy Volume was actully footage on the last bit of a long
capture session I had with Joy a long while back. It may have
been before the summer of 2005 started. Amoung the other things
we did that day involded playing pool, discussing duct tape ladders
and watching ourselves on video. That project sat on my harddrive
for quite a while. In fact, much of it is still there waiting for
me to either A edit it. Or B delete it. Or C store it elsewhere.
It's a common memory conundrum indeed.

It's time to discuss some of the thought processes behind my movie
making. What was I thinking?


I like this movie because I got a chance to say a lot of things
I wanted to say about what I've been thinking about behind the scenes.
Perhaps, it may inspire someone.
I had more clips for comment but I get edgy at movies approaching 3 minutes.
(I don't like the upload time involved) Especial with my new sort of
untrusted and faulty router. But this time the upload gods smiled upon
me and I managed to get the movie up.

I render the full clip and only then do I see the problems in the jerkiness.
It's alright though. I like the speed at which I can upload and get
a 30 second clip posted. I think the weekly attempts to make a short composition
help keep me in practise. I'm already noticing that I'm getting faster at
making them.

Weekends mean [Intermission]

I hate it when the net goes down and I have to post late.
But the thing is I have something even if it doesn't show
up right away. This is so that when you browse through the
whole collection later you don't find holes. And how are
you to know which days were late do to technical difficulties?

In my own world there is always room for biographical entries.
A hint that a movie is made to document some portion of my life
is the fact that the date shows up. It's not a perfect rule but
generally I make note of the date explicitly when I'm thinking of
just keeping track of something.

Eh, it was a day.



This movie actually got split into two. Originaly there
was going to be an audio syncing and action keying example
but I got asked to go over to a friends house instead of
doing that. While I was out I realized I could cut it
short by ending on one of the clips. The 'What can I show in you in Blender?'
was the begining of the Audio Snapping segment. 
I uploaded the files quite late as I had class at 8 am the next morning
and was probabily going to be tired for it. But so far I've 
kept up the movie a day spree. I'm not about to let a slight change
in nightly plans stop me. 

Mean while, I contemplate how best to manage a more 'show style' sort of
movie to be done each week, as well as consider making weekends Intermissions.
This time I know I'll be back on Monday. The thinking is still
the same. I'll gradually produce a surplus of movies for which I can 
put up when anything happens to the regular schedule.

Someone asks, "How do  you make colors change in animation?"
Well here's how you do it with Blender. (blender.org)


This was the first movie for which I saw a question and immedily 
did the movie to answer it. Perhaps, it represents a turning point 
in my movie emphasis? I don't know. I thought the pacing worked well
by shifting to the walking metaphor for the IPO explaination as well 
as a bit of recap with the floating color changing glob. Since the
project that had that effect in it was already set up all I had to 
do was change teh movie clip underneath and re-render. The FX went
much quicker since all I had to do was bascialy wait for the new
clip to render. That should be nice when I go off and do the 
'Chris World Dictionary' gags.

All around, the movie didn't take that long, had nice flow and
worked well for what it was. At this rate I should be getting back
to posting regaruly and get back to previews... because I just love
previews so much.

I guess I fooled everyone by claiming I was going to stop.
Ha. Jokes on them I haven't yet felt the full impact of being in
school with 18 units. Perhaps, then I'll be silenced but so far this year...
I am victorious in my movie-a-day run.

Tis the Season.

In keeping with the spirit of my Video Card Projects I
decided to make a Christmas Video Card this year.
I spent about 3 days on it from writing the script
to getting permission to film in the library lobby to
filming and then editing and then adding CG effects.
I don't think my efforts can be fully appreciated unless
people knew the background... that's why I have 'Making the Season'
